Summary of The Silver Sword
The Silver Sword is a story set in WW2. The Silver Sword is about 3 polish kids who with a few challenges and difficulties are trying to find their parents; after the being captured in WW2. Along the way, Edek, Ruth and Bronia meet a strange boy; his name was Jan. Jan soon embarks on their journey with them.Was this coincidence? Their father had met the exact same boy...
Ruth and Bronia have depended on Edek for almost everything; he was there lifeline. Suddenly Edek just disappears, and after 2 years have passed, Edek has still not been found.While Ruth, Bronia and Jan go on the quest to find Edek; as they get closer and closer, Edek gets further and weaker. They finally get to Edek , and continue the journey to find their parents.
Their journey to Switzerland gets harder and harder. Edek and Jan are then caught stealing by American troops; Jan has to do a week of detention. Edek's health gets worse each day. After the struggles, they finally get taken in by a kind farmer and his wife. They then hear that all the polish children will not be spared and sent back to Poland, the children are forced to make an escape throughout the night with some canoes that the farmer owns. Throughout the journey, the silver sword has always been an inspiration to them, however it gets left behind with the farmer and his wife. The silver sword kept them safe, however now that it is left behind, their luck is slightly running out. While travelling on the canoes Ruth and Bronia get shot, and the other canoe gets destroyed; with no sign of Jan and Edek. While crossing Lake constance the 4 children face a horrid storm.
In the end they do find their parents and after all the suffering they have been through, they finally felt happy.
